User Gets 72 Sticks of 32GB Server RAM For Free From Dad's Work
Text content
2 years ago, my dad's company bought new servers and immediately upgraded the RAM. They were going to throw away the replaced sticks so he saved them from the dumpster and gave them to me. I present to you 72x32GB HPE DDR4-2666MHz ECC RDIMMs.
Overview
This image is a screenshot of a public post from the Reddit r/pcmasterrace community, paired with a photo of a large collection of server RAM modules. The post text explains that 2 years before the post was made, the author's father worked at a company that upgraded the RAM in newly purchased servers, and planned to throw away the perfectly functional replaced memory sticks. The father rescued the RAM modules from being discarded and gave them to the author. The photo shows 72 individual 32GB HPE DDR4-2666MHz ECC RDIMM RAM sticks, with most laid out in neat rows on a flat surface, additional sticks stored in sealed anti-static pink plastic bags, and one single RAM stick placed on top of the laid out rows to clearly show the model label. The total combined capacity of the RAM is 2304 GB (2.3 terabytes), an extremely valuable haul for PC or server hobbyists.
