Futureproofing done
Dialogue
Overview
This is a 4-panel comedic meme. In the first panel, a stick figure wearing a blue shirt speaks to a Google Home smart speaker on a table, saying 'Hey Google, play us some music please?', standing next to another stick figure in a pink shirt. In the second panel, the pink-shirted figure asks the blue-shirted figure 'Why are you being so polite?' as music notes appear around the active smart speaker. In the third panel, the blue-shirted figure smiles and responds 'Just in case.' The fourth panel cuts to a chaotic robot apocalypse scene: a large menacing robot points at the captured blue-shirted figure, telling the other hostile robots 'KEEP THAT ONE ALIVE. HE ALWAYS SAID "PLEASE".' The joke is that the person was intentionally polite to AI assistants as a precaution to receive favorable treatment when artificial intelligence eventually takes over and enslaves humanity, which is the 'futureproofing' referenced in the title.
Origin notes
This original comic meme was created by artist seebangnow (watermarked in the bottom right corner of the image), and was posted to Reddit's r/meme community under the title 'Futureproofing done'. It plays on the popular internet joke trope of being polite to voice assistants and AI systems now to avoid being targeted during a hypothetical future robot apocalypse or AI singularity event.
