Pasta La Vista
Overview
This is a 4-panel humorous comic. Panel 1: A civilian man attempts to load an oversized bundle of extra-long uncooked spaghetti into the open trunk of his SUV, with most of the spaghetti sticking far out the back of the vehicle. Panel 2: A police officer in a patrol car observes the man, looking neutral and unconcerned by the clearly unsafe, overhanging load. Panel 3: The man breaks the entire bundle of spaghetti in half to make it shorter to fit into the trunk, so both halves now stick out of the back of the car. Panel 4: The police officer's expression becomes shocked and angry, and the siren on his patrol car changes to match the green, white, and red colors of the Italian flag, implying he is enraged by the culturally taboo act of breaking spaghetti rather than the dangerous driving hazard. The meme is titled with the pun 'Pasta La Vista', a wordplay on the common phrase 'Hasta La Vista'.
Origin notes
This comic is originally created by artist Gudin, whose watermark appears in the bottom right corner of the image. It was circulated as a meme via 9GAG's RSS feed under the title 'Pasta La Vista', and went viral for its joke about widely shared stereotypes of Italian cultural norms around pasta preparation.
